on my way to school one day

Just so you all don’t think that my life out here is a bed of roses with beaches and sangria, I was groped in the street by a vagabond while on my way to the studio this morning.

There are sketchy street characters throughout the gothic quarter, and as I was passing through Plaça Rieal one of them came at me with palms outstretched. He only got a quick squeeze before I elbowed him off and kept walking. He had quicker reflexes than I expected. A waitress a little way down the square said something (I assume) derogatory concerning him. My traumatized and shocked mind translated it into something like: “dirty, old donkey”. I just quickly made my way to the studio, which was close, and after receiving sympathy from some fellow students, plugged into my laptop and turned the music up loud.

After receiving hugs from my flatmates as well as a chupa chups sucker, I’m now feeling better about having my personal space invaded in such a personal way.

I need to get back to work now.. we’re presenting our project tomorrow and my group is just putting the finishing touches on our presentation. It’s about an area of Barcelona designated for aggressive redevelopment, I’ll try to write a comprehensive post about it later.

Oh, so you actually do go to school, and you actually have to do some work while you are in Barcelona? I am shocked. I hope your presentation goes well.

groping = bad. Learning you can count on your friends in a crisis = good.

Yay! ( I think?) Now you too have a 'being-groped-abroad' story!

It's creepy, frightening and quite violating in the moment, but trust me, it'll be funny as hell in about a year or two, and will provide years of awesome pub/coffee tales. (You know me, I always gotta look on the bright side of things.. ;)

    Still. Ick.
